What's new in KONFIG Network Management
Release 4.0.2
|
 |
|
KONFIG Network Management
4.0.2 (KONFIG) is a powerful tool used to document and administer network infrastructures, resulting in
reduced costs and improved reliability of the network. KONFIG builds a data model of the network
infrastructure in an Oracle relational database. Network drawing and diagrams (e.g. rack elevation views,
connectivity traces, logical views, BOMs, etc.) are automatically generated from the relational database.
When the network changes, the network drawings and diagrams are automatically updated and kept in synch
by simply updating the relational database. In release 4.0.2, Auto-trol Technology has enhanced its
unique synchronization technology, so you can now customize the network drawings and diagrams by changing
the layout, deciding which devices should be displayed in the view and adding annotation. These customized views
are preserved and also automatically updated when changes are made in the relational database. All drawings and
views are automatically generated by KONFIG and automatically kept up-to-date as data in KONFIG's Configuration
Management Database (CMDB) changes. Drawings or views affected by the changed are automatically updated the next
time they are displayed. Also new with release 4.0.2 is improved performance, unlimited URL links from any KONFIG object and GUI driven user tables.
KONFIG
4.0.2 provides support for Oracle
9i Release 2 (9.2.0.1) and Oracle Forms and Reports
6i, patch 12.

Detailed Summary:
|
|
Licensing
- New Find View Print license
for KONFIG.
- New license administration
GUI. An administrator can define which users are FVP
and which users are allowed to acquire full feature
product licenses.
URL Extensibility
- Administrative users can
associate URLs with KONFIG objects at the object
class, type model or instance level.
- Users can launch a web browser
by selecting an URL link title from a context menu
associated with object symbols in graphic views or
RDBMS forms records.
Graphics Views
- New device view and device
connections views.
- User layout control of logical/physical
views.
- New active object logical
view and port-to-port link abstraction of cable system
connectivity.
- New graphic/RDMS synchronization
technology.
- Improved performance of graphic
updates and graphic view generation.
- New legend view for color
code display of device status, cable types and port
connection status.
- Improved graphic display
by drawing cables to the center of the icons.
- User definable scale and
rotation for different object type symbols/icons.
- Color coding of cables per
conductor category type (i.e. MM fiber, SM fiber,
UTP, ect.)
- Display of cables in different
line font for Actual, Planned or cables with Delete
Pending.
Network
Addresses
- New Network Address form and
schema allowing one or more addresses of one or more
types to be associated at the device or port level.
- User defined address types
and address attributes.
Workspaces
- Replaced the term network
with workspace. In 4.0.2, a network is a class of
workspace.
- New Oracle based workspace
form.
- New workspace permissions
and access control per owner, group (organization
or project) or public.
Circuits
- New From-To and From-To-By
Oracle Reports.
- Allow circuit segment association
from device/port to device/port without requiring
cable connections.
|
Device Modeling
- User defined position orientation
(i.e. Front or Rear)
- User defined device slots
and slot dimensions.
- User defined ports and port
types per device model.
- User defined connector types
per device model.
User Tables
- New Oracle forms based User
Tables integrated with network, device, circuit, and
cable forms.
- New User Table administration
GUI for easy visual creation of user defined tables
and attributes.
Asset Management
- Account, Lease and Maintenance
interfaces are directly accessible from the device
form.
- Lease Contract and Maintenance
Agreement interfaces are available in the Administration
menu.
- Lease and Maintenance reports
are available in the new KONFIG 4.0.2 Report menu.
Interface Enhancements
- New Oracle based Port form.
- New Oracle based Splice form
and splicing functionality.
- Enhanced device form with
integrated Port, Connector, Network Address and User
Tables.
- New GUI controls/message
library.
- New thumbnail icon viewer.
- New facility (background)
import GUI allowing association of a floor plan with
a building and level.
- New facility (background)
drawing Motif file selection GUI.
- Replaced the "Selection
By" popup with 4 buttons labeled: Point, Form,
Name, Prompt.
- Replaced the "View ="
popup with 4 buttons labeled Device, Spatial, Physical,
Logical.
HP OpenView Device Monitor
Integration
- Enhanced KONFIG/OpenView
interface with integrations to OpenView's device monitoring.
On startup, the KONFIG/OpenView device monitor
reads OpenView maps and updates KONFIG's device
operational status and device IP addresses. It then
monitors OpenView catching operational status events
and updating the status in KONFIG's RDBMS.
